This is the official site for The Strange Talent of Luther, a six issue horror/super hero mini series from Image comics.  Luther Strode was a pretty average teenager until he ordered The Hercules Method, a bodybuilding course that promised to make a man of him. It didn’t just make him a man, it made him a super man.

Now Luther has to deal with the strange talents that the book has awoken, the attentions of a girl who might be just a little too much for him to handle, and an ever increasing pile of bodies that seems to be building up around him. Luther’s life will never be the same….

If he survives.

If you’re a fan of old school slasher movies, superheroics, or just a comic that is flat out fun, then The Strange Talent of Luther Strode is the book for you.

“The Strange Talent of Luther Strode” was everything I hoped it would be and more. The anticipated slasher/action scenes were totally gratifying. But, what really hooked me was the well-written dialogue and subtext that made the characters much more three dimensional than what I expected to find. I came for the gore and I’ll stay for the story. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

    Holy. Shit.

At the end of my freshman year of high school, I finally got the courage to deck the school bully who had been harassing me. While I split his lip, and sent him running to the Principal’s Office, I didn’t come close to the damage done by Luther at the end of issue one!

Sigh, if only I had ordered The Hercules Method.

Amazing comic. Can’t wait for issue two…best thing I’ve read in quite awhile!

Just found out about this comic today, thought i’d secretly read the first issue at work and ended up buying and reading all 3 off comixology. Great read guys, really good stuff up there with my favorites for the year. Was disappointed it’s only a mini-series, hopefully you guys can work together on another series soon!

I’ve read the first three issues and I’ve been entertained. The art by Moore and Sobreiro is certainly competent (lines are reminiscent greatly of that Vietnamese comics artist Tan Eng Haut who did Volume 3 of Doom Patrol) which isn’t a bad thing.

Point is–it’s entertaining. Nice pictures, competent writing, and a nice tip of the ol’ Hatlo hat to the ‘Hercules Method’ which gathers up all those cheap little ad pages older comics had for young boys and men to, like ‘How Mac Became a Man’ etc. and no longer got dirt kicked in his face. Yeah…fun.

That being said, I think I’ve seen this before in one form or another–in essence, it’s almost a sub genre of superhero comics: wanky kid becomes superhero but let’s make it ‘realistic’. Not all are treated in this manner…Millar’s Superior had a supernatural twist to it, and I’m sure there are other examples out there which, frankly, fifty years of comic reading have eroded the edges of those memories.

Regardless…fun stuff. Been there before, but it’s a fun place to come back to.

This past Monday I instinctly decided to take a trip to a local comic shop I hadn’t been to in months. As I waded through the sea of familiar titles available on the shelves, I came across issue #1 of a comic that I’d never heard of before, but was immediately drawn to. I bought it, went home, read it, and before the day was out I had gone back to the same store again to buy the other 4 issues while I could. Luther Strode KILLS (pun intended)!!!! It’s pure entertainment at its finest, and is a much needed breath of fresh air after years of reading the same rehashed story lines over and over and over and over and over… (you get the point). I cannot wait to read #6, but sincerely don’t want it to be over! In my opinion, Luther is the kind of character who deserves an ongoing series if given the chance, but I understand if that’s an avenue you guys wish to not travel. Either way, thank you VERY much for the entertaining read, and I look forward to hopefully seeing more out of this artistic team in the future!

Wow. I just burned through the trade, awesome read.

Reading the comments, I just learned of the Legend of Luther Strode…suffice to say, i’ll be picking that up as well.

I really dug the writing as well as the art, which was somewhat reminiscient of Rob Guillory’s work on Chew…but considerably more gory and visceral.

Anyways, I love what you guys have done, it embodies all of the things I geek out about.

I was watching “Attack of the Show” on G4 and the comic book segment mentioned “The Strange Talent of Luther Strode”. So I decided to check it out. I bought the trade paperback, with all 6 issues in it. Little to my surprise, I immediately fell in love with it, the same goes for the characters. The story to me seems so original, which is always a good thing. I was a little disappointed to find out it was a mini-series. I could of definitely seen myself buying every issue of this comic if it was ongoing. Anyways, really hope you guys consider making this a ongoing series, I’m curious to see where and what Luther does after tearing open his body bag and where the story goes in general. Go LUTHER!!!!!!
